Candles fit for Royalty
The brief
When fashion designer Kelly Hoppen and TV presenter Tess Daly teamed up to create a set of deluxe candles for the Prince’s Trust, they had a clear vision of the quality image they wanted to convey. Created to celebrate the Prince of Wales’ 70th birthday and inspired by the ethos of the charity he founded, the trio of candles were emblazoned with the words ‘Trust’, ‘Believe’ and ‘Inspire’. The client wanted a box that would capture the essence of the designs while instantly conveying the premium appeal of the product.
The challenge
Quality was of utmost importance on this job because of the project’s close association with HRH The Prince of Wales. It was also essential that the box should not only look very premium, but perform to a high standard as well – each of the three candles being contained in a glass vessel, we needed to produce a box that would protect the candles from jostling against each other as well as an external impact, and the box also needed to be strong enough to hold the weight of the products.
The solution
We used premium rigid board plus a board insert to create a compartmentalized box that would hold each of the three candles securely. The base of the shoe-style box was produced in gold with a white lid featuring single colour print on the front and back and stunning gold foil blocking in five locations, including The Prince’s Trust title and logo, and Kelly Hoppen’s signature on the reverse.
The outcome
The Prince’s Trust were very pleased with the finished product. We ensured the foiling was to the highest possible, which necessitated some amends to the artwork to give the best outcome and the result is a really beautiful box that is not only fit for purpose, but likely to be retained by the end user due to its premium feel. Our client commented: “The boxes were beautiful – a great job. Big thanks to you and the team.”
