Scottish Gin is Booming!
Interesting to note that 70% of the gin consumed in the UK is made in Scotland. And with World Gin day just around the corner (10th), this popular gin map by 5pm.co.uk has been updated – with 25 new Scottish Gins!
These 25 new gins have been launched in the last year, taking the total number of Scottish gins up to 53.
UK gin sales amounted to £1.1 billion in 2016, which was a 12% increase on 2015. Much of this is now produced in Scotland, largely due to the relocation of production of Tanquery and Gordon’s to Fife in 1998, but also ably helped by the increase in small craft distilleries and the entry of whisky companies into the gin market. Let’s see what more 2017 will bring…!
